A "Super Quote" From Superman!

I don’t know how many other people have noticed the quote in the newest rendition of Superman: Man of Steel but this quote caught my attention last night.  One of the villains says to Cal, i.e. Superman, “You have not evolved enough you still have a conscience!”  I don’t know if the writers put that there intentionally or not but there seems to be great truth to it.
Here is why I say there is great truth in the statement.   When one believes they have evolved they take away their belief in a creator.  When we take away a creator to which we are accountable then why does one need a conscience.  Each individual does not look to the creator to ask what is right and wrong, rather they make up their own mind, rely on the collective minds of a society, or listen to their government.  When an individual or society have no standards by which they determine right and wrong then morals continually shift.  Unfortunately, they seem to shift further and further from the standards of right and wrong that were set forth by our creator.
I would like to encourage you to consider the truth of Psalm 19.  Psalm 19:1–3 (ESV) 1The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. 2Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. 3There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard.  Then consider how this creator would have you to live in 2014.  Search His Word and live it!

The Revelation of God's Wrath, part # 1

Romans 1:18–25 (ESV)
18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, …21For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking…24Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves,
25because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

This passage connects man’s inability to respond to God as the Creator to God’s wrath.  Though God created man to rethink God’s thoughts and recreate his creation because of unrighteousness his natural inclination is to go the other direction.  In this the wrath of God is revealed.

Verse 24 gives us the first way that God’s wrath is revealed from heaven against ungodliness and unrighteousness of men.  Because natural man has chosen to not honor God or give thanks and has begun to worship false gods, God gave them up to in their lusts to impurity.  God is not the author of sin and therefore did not tempt them, but because of their rejection he allowed their lusts to grow and they in turn dishonor their bodies among themselves.  This comes about because they did not follow the truth, but made a lie and worshiped the created being instead of the Creator Himself.  Many have argued or taught that the wrath is revealed simply in the consequences of sin, that is not the case.  Yes, God’s wrath in Scripture is a consequence of sin, but here the construction of the verse brings us to an understanding that the entanglements of sin are a consequence of the wrath of God as well.  Though God has given them over to this sin it does not mean that he has forsaken them entirely.  Though unregenerate man’s entire goal is to “suppress the truth” he is, to be sure, not entirely successful in his endeavor and is never as evil as he could be; he is quite inconsistent.  We call this area of inconsistency Common Grace.  It is to this natural knowledge of God and the discrepancies of lifestyle that the gospel appeals.    The majority of men will never come to Christ so will not see as Romans 2 says, “that God’s kindness leads them to repentance.”

Romans 1:26–27 (ESV) 26For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

God’s wrath is further revealed as women and men choose to do what is contrary to nature and are consumed with passion committing shameless acts and thereby receive in themselves what is due to them because of their ungodly choices.

Our hope is that each listening may experience the mercy of God by repenting of their sin.

Know That the LORD He Is God!

Psalm 100:3 (NKJV) 3“Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture.”

“Know that the LORD, He is God”.  To Know – we need to possess the information that He is the LORD.   We need to live our lives with the awareness that He is Jehovah, the “I AM that I AM”, the Covenant God of Israel.  He is the “God” of Genesis 1:1 that was there “In the beginning.   He is the ever existent, all-powerful one, the true God.

“He has made us.”  As the Sovereign Creator God made us and therefore owns us.  “We are His.”  By right His creation of all means that all belongs to Him.   One goal of the secular humanist is to take away the accountability to God.  When man has Creator and no source he has no accountability and therefore can act as he wishes.

“We are His people and the Sheep of His pastures.”  God’s sovereign reign is over all mankind.  As His image bearers, all we do should reflect upon Him in a good state; it should bring glory to Him.

As the “sheep of his pasture” – we dwell in God’s Earth.  It is not our own to destroy nor is it ours to worship. We are to live responsively, using the natural resources God provided for us.  He gave us this world and provided us with all we need to survive and even thrive just as a loving shepherd provides for His sheep.

There are those who think that they make god or who in action and attitude make their own gods.  They do not serve the God of the universe; therefore, they do not serve Him thankfully or come before Him because they do not have access to Him.

When we as a sheep learn to follow God trusting Him as the Shepherd we can know that we are pleasing Him as we live lives of obedience.

This life of submission requires us to realize that indeed God is the creator, the LORD of all.  We must recognize that God loved us enough to send His son “to give his life for the sheep” (John 10:11).  This life cannot be lived until I confess that I am a sinner, that I have broken the law of the Holy God of the universe, and that we must ask forgiveness believing that Christ’s blood is the only thing sufficient to cleanse my sin.  This every individual must do himself.

My desire is that you truly come to “know that the LORD, He is God” and live a life submitted to Him.
